The 18-th European OptiLayer workshop was organized in a new format as compared to our previous workshops. The first day, beginner's day, was oriented to attendees that had little to no experience either in  OptiLayer software. The participants of the first day learned basic principles and ideas of OptiLayer software. Using practical exercises, they were able to create their own thin film material, substrate, and design databases, to evaluate spectral characteristics of the most widely used types of optical coatings and to design coatings with requested spectral properties. During the first day, they also learned how to import measurement data and to perform characterization of thin films using spectral photometric data.

 18th Workshop Leybold

The next two days of the course covered the main issues and the most recent advances related to the design and production of optical coatings. It was demonstrated how OptiLayer meets the most urgent needs and requests of our users. The main goal of these two days was to show how progresses in design techniques, pre-production and post-production error analysis, monitoring techniques can jointly contribute to maximizing production yield and raising the quality of modern optical coatings.

We are grateful to Leybold Optics for the invitation to hold our 18-th European OptiLayer workshop in Alzenau. Leybold Optics is the world leading company in the production of nearly all types of vacuum coaters for a wide range of modern applications and we are glad to present the most recent advances in optical coating software at this renown place.
